Apple Turnover

Random Apple thoughts in the quest for more traffic!

Back in the dark ages (said Delilah), the iBooks’ selling point was the mixture of *nix and mac, the most reliable OS with the best UI. For developers like myself, tired of installing every other Linux distro on a spare PC, it was perfect. What’s more, it was highly portable. The 12inch form factor is pretty spot on for portable hacking.

Looking into the hopefully not too distant future, the Intel iBooks’ selling point is going to be the most reliable OS and UI with the most popular desktop, Windows (plus a little bit extra oomph from the CPU). Just as the early version of OSX used Classic mode to support OS9 and OS10, and the Intel Macs are using Rosetta to support PowerPC apps alongside Universal apps, so it seems that Boot Camp and Leopard will offer this same twin appeal by running Windows and Mac apps concurrently. Those are some impressive ripples, starting with OSX and ending with a cross-platform OS.
